“Deliver Me from Nowhere” Highlights the Making of a Legendary Album
Bruce Springsteen, the legendary rock icon, has given high praise to Jeremy Allen White for his portrayal in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. Based on Warren Zanes’ 2024 book about the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska, the film delves into the creation of one of the most pivotal works in lo-fi indie rock history.
During a recent interview on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, Springsteen lauded White, best known for his Emmy-winning role in The Bear. “He sings well. He sings very well,” Springsteen shared, adding that while seeing someone else portray him felt “a little bit weird at first,” he quickly embraced White’s interpretation. “Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s done a great job,” Springsteen said, emphasizing the authenticity White brings to the role.
The Nebraska album, recorded on a Teac 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s Colts Neck house, was initially intended as a demo for the E Street Band. However, the decision to release the stripped-down recordings as they were became a groundbreaking move, defining the lo-fi indie rock genre. The biopic captures this creative process, exploring the themes of isolation and introspection central to the album.
Springsteen revealed he has been involved with the film when possible, enjoying his visits to the set. The movie also features Jeremy Strong as Jon Landau, Springsteen’s longtime manager, and Johnny Cannizzaro as Steven Van Zandt, the iconic E Street Band guitarist.
In addition to the film, fans can anticipate fresh releases in 2025. According to a Dec. 18 press release from Springsteen’s representatives, upcoming projects will include unreleased recordings, providing an intimate look into the rock legend’s storied career.
With Deliver Me from Nowhere shining a spotlight on one of Springsteen’s most unique albums and new music in the pipeline, 2025 promises to be an exciting year for fans of “The Boss.”
